Chris McKay was fortunate to have the opportunity to interview Dr. David Watts.  He’s a world renowned, double board certified plastic surgeon.  Dr. Watts has plastic surgery offices across the country and completed over 18,000 surgical procedures in his career.  He’s been featured in major programs and magazines such as ABC News, Fox News, Good Day Philadelphia, CBS Radio, USA Today and Doctors’ Digest.  Additionally, Dr. Watts hosts a weekly television talk show called “Plastic Surgery Issues and Answers’ and is a key advisor for Johnson & Johnson Worldwide.

During this 28:30 minute interview, Dr. Watts talked about the diabetic epidemic in America today. There are approximately 24 million people in the US currently have diabetes. Plus, another 57 million people are pre-diabetic. It’s projected that the number of people with type 2 diabetes will double over the next 25 years to 44 million.

He explained that people living with diabetes are prone to something called Neuropathy and Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD).  Neuropathy in diabetes can cause insensitivity or a loss of ability to feel pain, heat and cold. And, PVD is a narrowing of vessels that carry blood to the legs, arms, stomach, and feet preventing proper circulation.  

And, Dr. Watt’s explained that more and more people living with diabetes are coming in with foot ulcerations that need to be closed.  If infection does set in, it could unfortunately lead to surgery or even amputation. And, Dr. Watts explained that he wants to prevent amputation at all costs.  And, that’s why he created Foot Medix.
